ABOUT US
The Humanity Calls is a not-for-profit organization of Dakshakriti, formed by collaborative efforts of various agents of social change in society to build a better world together. The Humanity Calls envisions a world where technological and social innovations, education, skill development, and economic empowerment are rooted in sustainability to bring prosperity to the life of everyone.
It all started in March 2020, during the phase of National Lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It started with the aim of helping and supporting vulnerable sections (senior citizens, people with disability, people with mental illness, construction/daily wage workers, homeless population, sex workers, transgenders, and stray animals.) of the society to meet their basic daily needs of essentials (food and hygiene). A report about our work could be read here: Let's Fight This Together - A ChangeMaker's Newsletter (thehumanitycalls.org).
Various National large-scale and small-scale survey data and newspaper reports show that the Unorganized Sector has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and associated measures (such as complete and partial National and State Lockdowns). As a result of this pandemic, the livelihoods generation options for the unorganized sector has been reduced, impacting their livelihoods, quality of life, and well-being. The unorganized sector largely comprises self-employed workers with or without assistance. These enterprises can be called MSMEs (micro-small-medium enterprises). A recent report on Improving Dynamism and Accelerating MSME Growth in the post-COVID scenario recommends short-term fiscal measures to “survive”, as well as medium-to-long-term reforms to “Revive” the sector and help it “Thrive” (Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship, 2020)
Livelihoods promotion is the only route through which we can deal with the issues of conditions of work and related aspects of poverty and vulnerability of those who are called the Self-employed Unorganized Workers. Given the empirical reality that the self-employed largely consist of own-account workers with or without assistance, the notion of 'livelihood promotion'' takes a broader meaning than what may be called 'enterprise promotion'.
We, at The Humanity Calls, a group of passionate people who are on the mission of Sustainable Livelihoods Generation, Decent Work, and Reduced Inequalities for the Unorganized Sector, want you to join this journey of CHANGE MAKING.
